Tracy has a PhD in Genetics and Biochemistry and has 20+ years experience in microbial pathogenesis, microbiomes and more recently, has focused on enteric fermentation, the process by which ruminants such as cattle, break down tough plant material for food. As an ‘ideas generator’ she excels at generating out-of-the-box ideas by mapping complex microbial interactions and metabolic pathways, and how these intersect with each other as well as with the host. Using this first principles approach, Tracy is able to identify and develop novel approaches to impactful problems. In recent years, her work has been dedicated to discovering novel solutions for mitigating enteric methane emissions while optimizing hydrogen utilization to enhance animal performance. Her work resulted in several (provisional) patent applications in enteric methane mitigation and a spinout in the rare skin diseases space. With a fresh perspective on rumen fermentation and animal husbandry, Tracy is uniquely positioned to serve as advisor to Herd Climate.
